China once again demonstrated how its players can dominate a major badminton tournament when six of their contingent reached Saturday's semi-finals of the US$250,000 Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open, after some superb play on Friday.
World champion Chen Jin impressed when he defeated former world No. 1 Peter Gade 21-18, 21-13, to ensure three Chinese players would take part in the men’s singles semi-finals.
Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei is the odd one out and he meets Lin Dan, while world No. 2 Chen Long faces Chen Jin.
The first tie will be eagerly anticipated as it pits reigning world champion, Olympic and Asian Games gold medallist Lin against the ‘King of the Superseries’ Lee - the two-time defending champion of the HK Open.
Lin and Lee are arguably the best two players on the planet and we can look forward to an enthralling encounter at 06:00 (GMT).
In the women’s singles, Tine Baun of Denmark is the sole non-Chinese competitor in the semis. She will be up against Wang Shixian, before compatriots Wang Yihan and Wang Xin battle it out in the other semi-final.
