Lee Chong Wei has his sights set on a record eighth Malaysia Open title when he takes on Kenichi Tago in the final on Sunday.
This prestigious Super Series event kicked off on January 10 and continues until the Sunday, January 15 with the world's best shuttlers on court.
Lee Chong Wei, who is looking to win an amazing fifth title in a row and eighth in total, booked his place in the final thanks to a 21-18 17-21 21-13 win over arch rival Chen Long.
Chong Wei was trailing 8-5 in the deciding game, but found his second wind to surge into the lead and take the match and he believed the fans certainly played their part.
He said: “he fans were fantastic and I don’t think I would have won if the match was not held in Malaysia. They really lifted me when I needed it most and that is why I celebrated so much after clinching the winning point.”
Chong Wei will now face Kenichi Tago in the final after his opponent, Chen Jin, conceded the match through injury very early on.
Tago said: “I’m bitterly disappointed as I was really pumped up to face him. It will be difficult against Chong Wei tomorrow as this is his home ground and he is also the world No. 1..”
