A major upset rocked the FIBA Africa Championship on Friday as Egypt stunned Côte d'Ivoire 82-75 in their Group C duel at the University of Antananarivo.

The Egyptians shrugged off a slow start and outscored the Ivorians in the second and fourth periods to secure their first win of the tournament.

Ibrahim El-Gammal led the way with 21 points, six rebounds and three assists. Backing him up was Mohamed El-Kerdany, who also had an all-around performance of 11 points, four rebounds and two assists. Kinidinnin Konate scored 16 points for Côte d'Ivoire, which finished runner-up to Angola two years ago in Libya.

In the other Group C game, Cameroon blasted South Africa 87-65 for its second-straight win. Gaston Essengue finished with 18 points, four steals and three rebounds as the Lions seized the solo lead in the group. Parfait Bitee and Frank Ndongo added 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Cameroon. Shane Marhanele paced the South Africans with 24 points.

Meanwhile, Nigeria claimed its second-straight win in Group A by handily beating Mozambique 78-63. Former NBA player Ime Udoka posted a triple double of 13 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists to lead the Nigerians. Derrick Obasohan, Olumide Oyedeji and Ejike Ugboaja also made significant contributions for the winning team. Augusto Matos led Mozambique with 20 points.

In the other group game, Mali downed host Madagascar 74-63. It was a painful defeat for the home side, which took a 23-14 lead after the first period.

Modibo Niakate fired a game-high 28 points while former University of Arizona mainstay Mohamed Tangara powered his way to 19 points and 10 rebounds. Andry Rakotoarisoa led Madagascar with 19 points. The Malians claimed their first win of the tournament while the hosts remained winless in two games.
