Meralco will try to halt Petron's winning start in the PBA Philippine Cup this weekend.
The Bolts dropped to a 2-2 record after losing to Rain or Shine 84-89 last Wednesday. The team was still without key players Mark Cardona, Sol Mercado, Reynel Hugnatan and Chris Ross.
Chico Lanete and Gabby Espinas have stepped up in their absence. Journeyman Lanete is averaging 15 points and 4.7 assists per game while Espinas norms 14.7 points and 8.7 boards per outing.
Also providing head coach Ryan Gregorio quality minutes are Mark Isip, Mark Yee, Asi Taulava and Mark Macapagal.
Meralco, however, will face a surging Petron Blaze squad. The reigning Governor's Cup champions have so far posted wins over B-Meg (73-69), Barako Energy (95-83) and Shopinas.com (98-87).
The team's impressive run has been credited to the brilliant plays of Arwind Santos, Alex Cabagnot and rookie sensation Chris Lutz. Santos, who recently earned the Player of the Week honors, is averaging 15.3 points and a league-best 18 rebounds a game. Former Smart Gilas nationa team standout Lutz is the team's leading scorer with 17.7 per game while Cabagnot is averaging 16 points, five rebounds and 5.3 assists. Head coach Ato Agustin can also count on veterans Danny Ildefonso and Dennis Miranda to deliver.
