UAE was walloped by the Philippines 52-92 in their opening Group D game. The Middle East squad led early in the game but found no answer to the Filipinos' aggressive plays starting in the second period.
Bahrain was also impressive in the early stages of its game against China behind the hot shooting of Bader Malabes. Malabes scored most of his 17 points in the first quarter before being checked by the Chinese defense. The Bahrainis were blasted by the hosts 49-101.
