THE STAKES
During the 2010-11 regular season Nymburk beat Riga twice, winning away 75-85 and at home 90-79. But only three VEF Riga players remain from the 2010-11 season – Kristaps Janicenoks, Dairis Bertans and Tyler Cain – while six Nymburk players have continued on.
Two of Nymburk’s squad have experience playing in Latvia: Lamayn Wilson played the 2002-03 season with Skonto Riga and Mike Lenzly had a turn with Ventspils.
THE TAKE
A good start, especially at home, is crucial in a six game competition. Riga is looking for its first-ever qualification to the Eurocup quarterfinals, while Nymburk will try to repeat their 2009-10 results, when they advanced to the Eurocup eighthfinals for the first time in club history.
During the regular season, Riga ranked third in three-pointers scored (102) and fifth in turnovers (91), while Nymburk was second in points (498), two-pointers scored (146) and rebounds (242). The matchup to watch is at point guard between Curtis Millage and Eugene Lawrence, but don't forget the contributors off the bench, especially from the deep Czech side.
