Four more exciting last 16 matches lay in prospect, with each player aiming to go within one step closer to glory.
The night begins with rapid Dutchman Willy van der Weil taking on Martin Atkins at 5.15pm. Neither player has ever got beyond this stage of the competition so will be determined to do so this time around.
Veteran Atkins saw off former champion John Walton in round one, while van de Weil disposed of Dave Prins. The game could be the closest of the night, with the bookmakers struggling to separate the two at 5/6.
Arguably the pick of tonight's matches sees darts' villain Ted Hankey face tournament favourite Scott Waites.
Hankey has won the title twice before, but Waites has proven his worth on the big stage over the past few years and could break his Lakeside duck this year.
The game promises to be a high-scoring affair, with Hankey looking to rattle cool thrower Waites.
The match to follow sees a clash of two debutants as Belgain Geert de Vos faces Dutchman Chritian Kist; both pulled off first round upsets, with de Vos shocking Tony West and Kist knocking out fellow countryman Jan Dekker.
Dean Winstanley impressed during his opening win and now plays Alan Norris for a place in the last eight.
Yorkshireman Winstanley has been tipped as a strong contender for the title and will be out to go one step further than last year when he reached the final, only to lose to Martin Adams.
His second round opponent is Alan Norris, who will be hoping to cause an upset and reach the Quarter-Finals for the first time.
