Reigning World Grand Prix champion James Wade pulled off a remarkable comeback to see off Vincent van der Voort in Dublin on Wednesday.
Wade looked like exiting the tournament in the second round as his Dutch opponent cruised into a two set lead, but The Machine won nine of the next 12 legs to book his place in the next round.
The win for Wade will now see him meet up with Andy Smith in the quarter-finals and he will now fancy his chances of retaining his title after that scare.
Despite Wade avoiding an upset, there were a number of big name casualties on Wednesday with Raymond van Barneveld, Wes Newton and John Part all suffering defeats.
Fans favourite Van Barneveld found himself on the end of a shock 3-1 defeat at the hands of Smith, while Northern Ireland number one Brendan Dolan continued to impress with a 3-1 success over Part with Scotland’s John Henderson almost throwing away a 2-0 lead to see off Wes Newton 3-2 for a place in the last eight.
The second round comes to an end on Thursday with the remaining four matches, including the eagerly-awaited clash between nine-time World Grand Prix champion Phil Taylor and Paul Nicholson.
The night begins at 7pm when left-handers Mark Webster and Alan Tabern collide, before Australia's Simon Whitlock meets Mark Hylton, while Richie Burnett takes on Denis Ovens.
