Phil Taylor picked up his 10th World Grand Prix Darts title on Sunday night with a 6-3 win over Brendan Dolan in Dublin.
Taylor showed his dominance in the double-start tournament with a fantastic week of darts to win the World Grand Prix Darts title for a record tenth time at the New Citywest Convention Centre.
Taylor charged into Sunday’s final thanks to a semi-final win over Richie Burnett, while Dolan managed to throw his first ever nine-darter on the way to knocking out defending champion James Wade on Saturday evening.
Dolan started the match in fine form as he hit an 180 to take the first leg, but Taylor hit back to claim the set 3-1.
Taylor then made it 2-0 in sets, before Dolan got into the game taking the third to trail 2-1 overall.
Dolan was throwing some fine darts and hit another 180 in the fourth set but could not prevent Taylor from taking a 3-1 lead.
Dolan then won the deciding leg in the fifth set after Taylor had missed the Bull on a 124 checkout, but Taylor refused to get complacent and soon took a 4-2 lead after taking the set with a 13-dart finish.
Dolan hit another 180 and double seven to lead in the seventh, but Taylor took out 100 with a pair of double tops in the second, hit a 171 in taking the third and then finished 85 on double six to move a set away from the title.
Dolan continued to fight and after Taylor missed 11 starting doubles in the deciding leg the Northern Irishman picked off 61 to make the score 5-3.
Taylor completed the victory in the next set by taking out tops to secure a very hard-fought 6-3 triumph.
A delighted Taylor said: “It's brilliant to win this title again.
“I went through a wide range of emotions during the game and it was a huge relief to win it in the end.
"At first I thought I'd win 6-0 because he was hitting nothing but then he clicked and the 180s started going in. It was hard work for me tonight but I had to remind myself 'I'm a champion' and keep trying to hit him back.
"If it had gone three-all it could have been a different game, and I kept trying to put him under pressure but he coped with it well and there was a brilliant 11-darter there, as well as his cracking 170 finish.
"I'm very proud of Brendan and pleased for him. He's going to be a handful now and he's believing in his ability, and put that into practice this week."
