The second round of the PDC World Championship Darts comes to a head today with sessions in the afternoon and evening.
The opening clash of the day sees King go up against talented Dutchman Van Gerwen in the last 32.
King has a special relationship with the darts fans - they love to boo him and he loves to be booed, but he will be hoping to silence the critics this afternoon by blunting the Dutchman’s arrows.
King, who is ranked 16th in the world, reached the semi-finals of the 2009 World Championship Darts and will fancy his chances of reaching at least that stage this year. He booked his place in the second round with a 3-0 win over Geoff Kime.
His opponent, Van Gerwen, is currently number 39 world and goes by the nickname of Mighty Mike. His best showing at the PDC World Championship Darts is a last 32 appearance in 2009. He won his first round clash 3-1 against Colin Osborne.
This should be an even contest with both players capable of big checkouts. King is seen as the odds on favourite to reach the last 16 and can be backed at 1/2 with Ladbrokes, while Van Gerwen is on offer at 13/8.
King is very capable of punishing Van Gerwen’s mistakes and he can be backed at 15/2 to complete a 4-0 whitewash and march on at Alexandra Palace, while the Dutchman is available at 6/1 to cause a minor upset with a 4-2 win.
