The first quarter final of Friday’s evening session at the PDC World Darts Championship has the makings of a classic as Simon Whitlock takes on Gary Anderson for a place in the semi finals on New Year's Day.

Whitlock and Anderson have the dubious honour of finishing runner up in the last two World Championships at the Ally Pally and with Phil 'The Power' Taylor, who beat Whitlock in 2010, having exited this year's competition, both players will feel they can go one better.
Despite suffering from an ankle injury for each of his matches, Whitlock has produced some memorable darts at the Alexandra Palace, not least in his last 16 match against Dutch sensation Michael van Gerwen.
Having taken a 3-0 lead, van Gerwen pulled back to 3-3 only for Whitlock to show wonderful composure and take the deciding set.
Gary Anderson also produced some magic in the last 16 when he beat Colin Lloyd. Anderson came flying out of the blocks, winning two sets in less than 10 minutes before eventually triumphing 4-1.
The Scot seems to be finding his groove at the right time, having almost been knocked out in the first roung against Artut and with the 180’s beginning to come with ease, he'll be up for this one.
This quarter final will be over the best of nine sets with Andy Hamilton or Kim Huybrechts awaiting the winner in the semi final.
