‘The Power’ was in sensational form at the Citywest Hotel as he hit key finishes of 105, 120 and 147 to help cruise to a straight-sets victory 3-0.
The Stoke thrower only dropped three legs in the entire game and he is feeling confident about securing his 10th World Grand Prix Darts title.
Taylor said: “I'm really pleased with the win and it's another indication that my game's in good shape at the moment
“Paul didn't play as well as he can. He's making a name for himself at the moment and he's a very good player, but he's not as consistent enough yet."
Taylor will now meet Mark Webster in the quarter-finals in a repeat of their last-eight clash at the World Championship in January after he saw off Alan Tabern 3-1.
Mark Hylton made it through to the quarters with an amazing shock 3-1 win over talented Australian Simon Whitlock and he will now face Richie Burnett in the last match on the card on Friday after the Welshman, again last on the oche, made it through to his first televised quarter-final since 2004 with another 3-1 success over Denis Ovens.
