Dinamo Zagreb play Lyon in a UEFA Champions League Group D fixture at the Stadion Maksimir in Zagreb.
The Croatian side, Dinamo Zagreb are no longer in contention for a berth in the round of 16. Nor can they make it to the Europa League, having lost five games in a row in the tournament so far.
Barring the first match against Real Madrid on September, when their opponents scored only one goal, all the remaining games were lost by a higher margin. They go into the game, having conceded six goals to Real Madrid in the previous match.
Lyon started off with a draw and a win but consecutive losses at the hands of Real Madrid (4-0 and 2-0) pushed back their chances of qualifying for the round of 16. The French side can still make it through to the pre-quarter-finals in the Champions League if they beat Dinamo Zagreb but they will also need some help from Real Madrid.
Currently, Lyon have five points to Ajax’s eight. A win over Dinamo Zagreb will push them to eight which will tie them for the second spot if Real Madrid beats Ajax. Given both teams, Lyon and Ajax have played out successive goalless draws, it could boil down to goal-difference. This is where Lyon seems to be struggling a little. They are behind Ajax by a goal-difference of seven and to cover those many will need a power-packed performance – both, by Lyon in this game and Real Madrid against Ajax.
The Dinamo Zagreb v Lyon match will begin at 7.45 pm GMT.
