Krim Mercator and CS Oltchim RM Valcea take on each other in Group 2 of the EHF Women's Champions League Main Round today.
Krim qualified for the next round by finishing second in to Larvik in Group B. The Slovenian club has not won in its last four matches, settling for two draws and two losses. In their last Champions League match, they lost to Larvik 19-22.
Adding to head coach Tone Tiselj woes' are injury to key players. Kristina Franic, Andreja Seric, Liudmila Bodnieva and Ibolya Mehlmann are all nursing injuries. However, Tiselj is confident ahead of their clash against Oltchim.
"Looking realistically, the two favourites are Oltchim and Buducnost. The long-term vision of those two clubs has meant a lot of work, time and money in the few years, so I´d put them ahead of us. In today´s sport it´s impossible to achieve high goals overnight. However we will show our competitors the strengths of Krim and we will try to surprise, and for this we will need the support of our loyal fans," he told eurohandball.com
Oltchim, meanwhile, topped Group D with 10 points. They ended the group phase with back-to-back wins over Buxtehuder SV (28-22) amd Itxako Reyno de Navarra (30-22). The Romanian club defeated Otelul Galati 34-22 in its last domestic match.
Oltchim made several changes to its line-up. Returning to the club is veteran goalkeeper Luminita Dinu-Hutupan, who will likely start in the place of Talida Tolnai or Sanela Knezovic. Gone are Roxana Han Gatzel and Melinda Geiger, who have transferred to other clubs.
Coach Radu Voina will also be without star player Cristina Neagu and Russian international Ekaterina Vetkova. Neagu is still nursing a shoulder injury while Vetkova is stricken by German measles.
