VFL Gummersbach and THW Kiel resume campaign in Handball Bundesliga
The Christmas celebration is over and its time to buckle down to work for VFL Gummersbach and THW Kiel as they clash in the Handball Bundesliga tonight.
Gummersbach is facing a daunting task as Kiel is unbeaten this season. Not much is expected from the relegation-threatened hosts as they have earned only eight points from 17 matches.
In the last round, Gummersbach lost to HSG Wetzlar 27-35. Prior to that game, they held Hannover-Burgdorf to a 33-33 draw. Gummersbach, however, is still alive in the DHB Pokal having beaten Nordhorn Lingen 28-25 in the last round.
Kiel, meanwhile, should not have much trouble disposing of Gummersbach. The 16-time Bundesliga champions have won 14 straight matches in all competitions. In their last Bundesliga match, they defeated Hildesheim 31-22. The powerhouse club also downed AG København 28-26 in its last EHF Champions League fixture and ousted Füchse Berlin 39-28 in the DHB Cup.
This will be their last match before the league takes a winter break. The league will resume play in February.
