Day two of the PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup gets underway in Las Vegas tonight with USA looking to regain some pride after a disastrous opening session.
Defending champions Europe hold a impressive 4-1 lead over USA after day one at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and they will be hoping to tighten the screw this evening.
Europe got off to a great start in the Team match, where all five players from each team competed, taking the game 6-3 to lead the tournament 1-0.
USA soon got back on level terms as Johnny Archer and Shawn Putnam took the honours in the first doubles encounter of the day with a 6-3 triumph over Chris Melling and Nick van der Berg.
After that America did not get a look in as Europe took full control. First Niels Feijen saw off Rodney Morris 6-0, before Darren Appleton and Ralf Souquet made it 3-1 with a 6-4 victory over Shane van Boening and Mike Dechaine in the doubles.
Melling then rounded off the day with a superb 6-5 win over Van Boening to ensure Europe headed into day two with a handsome 4-1 advantage as they look to retain the trophy they won last year in London.
The format for Friday is a bit different with three doubles matches taking place and two single clashes, instead of the one Team match that opened up the tournament.
Captains cannot use the same pair twice in the doubles, There are seven doubles matches altogether with a possible 10 different pairings.
