Europe travel to Las Vegas this week to try and retain the Mosconi Cup against USA and you can watch all the action live online.
Europe won the 2010 Mosconi Cup by beating the USA 11-8 in Bethnal Green, London thanks to Darren Appleton and Ralf Souquet’s victories.
It was the third time that Europe have beaten the Americans in the past four years of the tournament and the second time in that period that Souquet has potted the winning 9-ball. The German said of the triumph:
"This is the greatest feeling on earth to make the final 9-ball and make us win”
The Americans must now focus their attentions on the 2011 Mosconi Cup, with veteran Rodney Morris stating:
"They played well so congratulations to the Europeans. They outplayed us all week and we just have to take it and wait for next year.”
The USA will have the benefit of home advantage in 2011, with the tournament scheduled to be played at the MGM Casino in Las Vegas and will continue with the same set of rules which have proven successful since their introduction in 2009:
- No pairing in the doubles matches can be repeated.
- The event will include four blocks of consecutive matches, organized so that five slots are available for each side, in which every player is required to play exactly once.
- In two singles matches, each player is selected by the opposing team captain.
One player who will be keen to be re-selected in England’s Karl Boyes. The only rookie in the 2010 event dispelled any doubts over his ability to handle the pressure by posting a series of match winning performances.
The 2011 Mosconi Cup, like the 2010 tournament, will be screened live online by Bet365. To watch, simply:
