Niels Feijen from Holland had the honour of sinking the winning 9 ball to beat Rodney Morris 6-3, before scenes of wild celebration ensued.
The Dutchman also received the Most Valuable Player award for the tournament.
The North Americans came into Sunday’s play trailing 10-5, but started well, winning the opening two games.
At that stage it looked as though the USA wouldn’t go down without a fight.
However, with Hawaiian Rodney Morris only showing flashes of his best form against Feijen in the deciding match, it was hardly surprising to see Europe emerge victorious.
Morris produced a shocking safety on the 5 ball from the final rack and that was to be the American’s final contribution to the event as Feijen wrapped up proceedings at his seventh Mosconi Cup.
