Carter must take maximum points from both games on the night if he is to have any chance of reaching finals night at the end of the month.

A defeat for the Essex cueist in his opener would end his hopes altogether, as would a heavy defeat in the final if he was to get that far. He currently sits in seventh place on nine points, three behind Robertson in fourth.

World champion and multiple ranking event winner John Higgins however cannot reach the play-offs and will be playing for pride against the former Shanghai Masters champion.
