For both, it will be their first ever UK Championship final, but only one player can claim the £100,000 first prize by the end of the evening.
Trump is the hot favourite; having survived a scare from Dominic Dale in round one, he then went on to beat Ronnie O'Sullivan, Stephen Maguire and Neil Robertson to reach the final.
His unique attacking style and clinical break-building has made him an instant hit with the snooker faithful, having shot to fame following his run to the World Championship final in May.
His opponent is Northern Irish star Mark Allen. The player known as The Pistol caused controversy earlier in the week, stating that he felt Barry Hearn should be sacked as chairman of World Snooker.
He has since let his snooker do the talking, with a series of fine displays. His victories en route to the final included over: Adrian Gunnell, Ali Carter, Marco Fu and Ricky Walden.
The match promises to be a highly entertaining encounter, with both capable to knocking in high breaks and not afraid of taking on difficult pots.
The players last met in a PTC event in August over a much shorter format, with Trump winning 4-2 on that occasion.
The bookmakers make him big favourite to take the title today; he is best priced 1/2 with Paddy Power, with Allen the 6/4 underdog.
The match begins at 2pm, with the final session commencing at 8pm. Both sessions will be streamed live, with the match played over the best of 19 frames from the Barbican Centre, York.
