Roger Federer described the past month as his best ever finish to a season after winning a hat-trick of titles to end 2011.
"I have been able to win six World Tour Finals and that is an amazing feeling," he said. "I know it is one of my greatest accomplishments and this was the strongest finish I have ever had in my career."
"I felt like I played great during these last few weeks. I felt I played great here in London. It gives me a lot of confidence for next year. But regardless of how it went here, I would have been in a good state of mind for next year. And I think that counts for all the other top guys as well. I think it's been a good year and a good championship for most of the top eight players. I think most of them are looking forward to next year starting again at some point."
Federer's performance at the ATP World Tour Finals saw him pip Andy Murray to finish the season ranked third in the world. He may not admit it publicly but one would suspect Federer to secretly be very happy with that after Murray's well publicized intentions to finish the season ranked ahead of the Swiss.
And now on to 2012. It's a big year for Federer as he seeks to prove to everyone that he's still capable of winning more grand slams and it's probably his final chance to win that elusive Olympic singles gold come August.
