Andy Murray went a step closer to winning four tournaments in a row when he beat Jeremy Chardy in the second round of the Paris Masters 2011.
Murray needed only 79 minutes to enter the round of 16, showing his class against the 110-ranked Chardy. Murray won 6-2, 6-4.
In the first set, Murray raced off to a 4-0 lead with two breaks of serve, before Chardy even got on the board. Chardy managed his next two service games, but Murray had no difficulty in serving out the set to win it 6-2.
Such was Murray’s domination that he lost only two points off his serve in the first set.
Chardy played much better in the second set and while he did not have a chance against the Murray serve, he held his own in the first two service games. However, Murray broke him in the fifth game of the second set, before holding his own serve to go 4-2 up.
Again, Chardy managed to hold on to the remaining two serves, but Murray had eased off to the next stage by serving out at 5-4.
Andy Murray will now play 13th-ranked Andy Roddick in the third round of the Paris Masters 2011.
In another match, 15th seeded Viktor Troicki defeated Sergiy Stakhovsky in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, to move into the third round as well. Troicki takes on the winner of the later match between top-seeded Novak Djokovic and Ivan Dodig.
