The Scot was faced with a tricky semi-final showdown against home favourite Bernard Tomic on Saturday, but he produced a sublime display to cruise past the youngster 6-3, 6-2.
“I served very well today, which is important against Bernard,” stated Murray after his win. “I was just moving so much better. It’s a huge part of my game. When I move well, the rest of my game goes well. My movement at the start of the week – for me it felt like a one out of 10. Now I feel like I’m moving about an eight or a nine out of 10. It can still get better, but I’m playing well.”
Murray will now take on Alexandr Dolgopolov for the title. Dolgopolov secured an impressive 6-3, 6-4 victory over world No. 12 Gilles Simon in the final four, despite having his right thigh strapped up. Dolgopolov may struggle on Sunday, but his threat shouldn’t be overlooked.
“He’s a very unorthodox player,” said Murray of Dolgopolov ahead of the final. “He uses a lot of slice and can generate a lot of power like Bernard, so I’m going to have to be on my game, play very consistent, and hopefully serve like I did today – it makes the game much easier.”
