Andy Roddick is off and running in the ATP Shanghai Masters as the 40/1 shot got the better of Lu Yen-Hsun on Monday.
The American big hitter has made the second round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters after seeing off Yen-Hsun of Chinese Taipei 6-2 3-6 6-2 at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center.
Roddick, who is ranked 15th for this tournament, is a 40/1 chance with
Stan James to take the title away from British number one Andy Murray.
Over the past two years Roddick has had to pull out during the tournament through injury but this year he finally completed a match and will now be full of confidence for the remainder of the rounds.
He said: “He (Lu) plays so high risk. A lot of it’s two sets with two breaks, one set where I had more break point opportunities and didn’t get it. Overall I thought it was pretty good.”
Young Australia Bernard Tomic is also through to the next round after picking up a 7-6 6-7 6-3 win over South African Kevin Anderson.
Tomic can be backed at 80/1 to go all the way and win the title.
