The women’s singles and the men’s doubles final will be played on Saturday, January 28 in the Australian Open 2012.
In the women’s singles final, the third-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus will be up against former champion and fourth ranked Maria Sharapova. This is Azarenka’s first entry into the final while Sharapova had won the Australian Open in 2008.
Azarenka overcame the defending champion Kim Clijsters 6-4 1-6 6-3 to make it to the final, whereas Sharapova defeated the second-seeded Petra Kvitova in a three-setter, winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-4
In the men’s doubles final, the Bryan brothers will play Indian Leander Paes and Czech player Radek Stepanek. The Bryan brothers have won the Australian Open five times and are the defending champions while Paes and Stepanek have rarely played together before this. They went into the tournament unseeded.
