Andy Murray’s start to the Brisbane International was almost sluggish this season, but he found his game as the tournament went on, and eventually lifted the title with an emphatic  6-1, 6-3 win over an injured Alexandr Dolgopolov. Whilst the Scot will have to step up his efforts another notch to challenge for the Australian Open, the two-time runner-up appears to be in good shape to threaten the other main contenders.

Murray’s new partnership with Ivan Lendl could prove to be crucial. "We've spoken about working hard and focussing on the process and not worrying about past results or things that have happened in the past,” said Murray.

"He's going to help with all sorts of things and hopefully come the Australian Open I'll be playing great tennis but we will have only been working together for 10 days. I'll have to spend a lot more time with him before we can make any changes to my game."

Murray finished the 2011 season strongly with big performances in the Asian Swing. His perfect start to the 2012 season won’t have gone unnoticed. Novak Djokovic will surely enter Melbourne as the favourite though, and Murray will also have to contend with the likes of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, provided the Swiss star’s back injury heals in time.
