Spaniard David Ferrer will be up against Juan Monaco from Argentina in the second reverse singles match of the Davis Cup final 2011 on Sunday.
The importance of this match will be decided by the result of the first reverse singles match of the day between Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro.
If Nadal wins, Spain would be the Davis Cup winners this year and the Ferrer-Monaco tie will be reduced to a best-of-three set encounter. However if del Potro can surprise the world number two in the opening reverse singles match, the winner of the Ferrer-Monaco match will take home the Davis Cup title.
Ferrer struggled in his first match in the final, before defeating del Potro in five sets. His form, though, has been supreme in the lead-up to this final and he should not have too many difficulties in this encounter.
Monaco goes into the match after being drubbed 6-1, 6-1, 6-2 by Nadal in the opener. But what should fill him with confidence is the appearance in the Valencia Open 500 final, a tournament in which he defeated Ferrer.
The Spaniard should be the favourite to win this but if this does become a decider, the pressure will be squarely on Ferrer against a less-fancied Monaco.
The Monaco-Ferrer reverse singles match will commence at the completion of the Nadal-del Potro encounter.
