The event was won last year by Lourdes Dominguez Lino, who came back from a set down in the final to defy Mathilde Johansson, who was playing in her first ever WTA final.
Dominguez Lino will be returning this year as the sixth seed, and doing what she can to get her hands on this title for a third time. Johansson, whose sights will surely be set on winning the event this time around, will be the fifth seed on this occasion.
These two players will have to really battle for the title though, as the top four seeds will all be keen to make a statement here. They are Marina Erakovic, Alexandra Dulgheru, Jelena Dokic and Gisela Dulko, seeded first to fourth respectively. Dulko in particular is a tough opponent on clay, and is arguably the favourite to win the competition outright.
