Third seeded Radek Stepanek of Czech Republic plays American Ryan Sweeting in his second round match at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships 2012.
Stepanek entered the second round after beating another American, Bobby Reynolds in his opener. He overcame the qualifier ranked outside the top 100, rather easily 6-3, 6-2 to make it to the second round.
Sweeting’s first round opponent was former world number four James Blake of USA whom he blanked rather easily 6-0, 6-2.
The two, Stepanek and Sweeting have played each other once before this match. It was at the qualifying second round of 2010 New Haven Open and the Czech player came through in straight sets.
However, Stepanek has shown some inconsistent form in recent times, losing in the first round of three of the tournaments – ATP Paris, SAP Open and the Australian Open. His best singles performance this year was a quarter-final entry in the ATP Brisbane, something he will look to emulate by defeating Sweeting.
The Radek Stepanek v Ryan Sweeting second round match at the ATP Memphis 2012 will be played on February 23.
