After losing a close first set by virtue of a tie-breaker, the Aussie eventually fell to Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in straight sets, 7-6(2), 6-3.
“Probably the whole country hates me right now,” claimed Cirstea after recording the win. “I hope when you wake up in the morning you feel better about me. I'd just like to thank everyone today for coming to watch us play.”
Cirstea had been written off going into this contest, but she focused on her own game and overcame the odds. “Everyone was focusing on her (Stosur) more and forgot about me a little bit,” continued the world No. 59. “I heard everyone saying on TV this would be an easy win for her. So I just kept practising and doing my own stuff.”
