Wickmayer’s opponent in the final will be Mona Barthel, who has caused a number of upsets since qualifying for the competition. En route to the final, the German has beaten second seed Anabel Medina Garrigues, fifth seed Jarmila Gajdosova, and compatriot Angelique Kerber. She defied the fourth seeded Kerber in the semi-finals, clinching a 6-0, 7-6(6) success.
Wickmayer will need to be wary of her opponent here. Barthel has demonstrated that she could have a very bright future ahead of her, and she’s playing with plenty of confidence. Still, Wickmayer is a worthy No. 1 seed, and she should just about have the edge on Saturday.
