Pakistan will play the first game of the Asia Cup cricket tournament to be played in 2012. The Asia Cup 2012 schedule was revealed on Monday.
Four teams will participate in the tournament, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The four-nation tournament will be played in Dhaka from March 12. It will be on a round-robin basis, where all four teams will play each other once. The top two sides in the points table will then contest the final.
The final will be contested on March 22.
So far, a total of 10 editions of Asia Cup cricket have been played. India has won the tournament five times, while Sri Lanka have been champions four times. Pakistan’s only win in the competition came in 2000 when they beat Sri Lanka in the final of the four-nation tournament.
Bangladesh have never won the Asia Cup. In fact, they are yet to enter the final of the competition. India are the defending champions, having beaten Sri Lanka in the previous final at Dambulla.
