Herschelle Gibbs will prefer playing for the Perth Scorchers in the Champions League T20 later this year but has said that if he gets selected in the IPL, the decision will be out of his hand.
Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers are the two Australian teams to have qualified for the Champions League T20. Both teams have a couple of overseas players playing for the side but their IPL contract says that if these players feature for an IPL team that qualifies for the CLT20 as well, then the Indian Premier League side gets the right to rope in the player.
It means that Gibbs, who was selected in the IPL auction on February 4, 2012 by the Mumbai Indians, will need to turn up for the side if they qualified for the CLT20.
Gibbs made 302 runs in the Big Bash League at an average of 43.14 from his seven matches in the Big Bash League 2012.
The former South African opener, who scored four half-centuries in the tournament, said, “If you do get picked up in the IPL, 100 per cent of the time it's the IPL teams that have the last say in the matter, and if that happens and I do get picked up it's entirely out of my hands.”
The Champions League T20 will be played this year around the World T20 that gets played in September in Sri Lanka. The Champions League T20 schedule is yet to be released.
