A Historical View:
Both Mumbai, and Punjab go into the game with six points apiece. While Mumbai started off with a bank before losing their last couple, Punjab have been up and down through most part of the tournament. Mumbai have won and lost three, while Punjab have won three of their seven games.
Surprisingly, Mumbai have a very poor record against Punjab, having lost six of the nine games they played against each other.
The last time they each other was at Mumbai last week, which saw Shaun Marsh crack a superb unbeaten half-century to win it for the visitors. Can Mumbai avenge that defeat here?
Probable selection:
The Mumbai Indians have serious selection issues. While most teams are struggling with decision-making on which four overseas players to fit into the playing 11 of the plenty that they have, Mumbai created a record of sorts by selecting only three in their previous game.
Lasith Malinga’s absence has been an issue as well and it remains to be seen whether Mitchell Johnson or Clint McKay will make it to the 11 in his place.
Sachin Tendulkar’s return in the previous match was well-received by the fans but there was a definite look of edginess about him. Now that he has played one game, he should settle down and could prove to be difficult to dislodge.
Of course, it remains to be seen the kind of pitch that will be on display for this game. Last time the track was slow in the first innings but quickened up enough for the pair of Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers to make merry.
Shaun Marsh is in fine form and he will be one batsman to look out for while Parvinder Awana can crank it up to more than 140 km/hr for the side and how the Mumbai Indians play him will be interesting.
