A Historical View:
It has been a difficult journey for the Deccan Chargers. Before going into their last game against the Kolkata Knight Riders, they had played five and lost all of them. The match against Knight Riders was abandoned because of rains and they got their first point.
However, Chargers want some wins under their belt if they have to keep their outside hopes of making it to the playoffs alive. The big question is whether that will happen against Pune today, who has a good team this season.
Pune come into the match with a convincing loss at the hands of the Delhi Daredevils. They still have eight points, which is only two short of the table-toppers and have a good chance of levelling with the Daredevils in points – albeit off an extra game played – if they win this.
The two have played twice against each other and both have won a game apiece.
Probable selection:
Pune has not selected Marlon Samuels for a couple of games, but going by the way the track played last game, there is enough evidence to suggest that an extra spinner may be needed. Even Pune’s opponent in the previous game, Virender Sehwag suggested that the Warriors had misread the pitch, something they might want to rectify.
That been the case, Luke Wright might have to sit out after having an ordinary game with the ball. He might consider himself unlucky but his illness at the end of the game could be another reason why Pune will look to get Samuels back.
The Deccan Chargers have played Cameron White in the side without too much success and it may be a good idea to strengthen the batting by including Daniel Christian. JP Duminy will continue to remain a vital cog but it must be said that Kumar Sangakkara needs to come good if the side has to come close to winning.
Shikhar Dhawan’s form has been a saving grace for the Chargers and along with Dale Steyn, will the player to watch out for.
