The Asian Volleyball Championship (AVC) is a sport competition for national teams, currently held every two years and is organised by the Asian volleyball federation.
The Men’s tournament sees 12 teams split into two groups, A and B, and they will play in a round robin format before all going through to the next stage/
The next stage of the Asian Volleyball Championship will see the first placed Pool A team take on fourth from Pool A and vice versa, with second versus third and fifth against sixth in order to determine your overall finish in the standings.
The winners will then advance to the two finalists are determined to see who takes first and second place.
The Women’s Asian Volleyball Championship is a similar format with eight teams participating rather than the Men’s 12, and their second round stage will mirror the Men’s until two finalists appear.
The first Asian Volleyball Championship for both men and women was held in 1975 in Australia with Japan taking the titles in both formats with wins over South Korea.
The last Men’s tournament was held in Iran in September 2011 with the host nation picking up their first ever Asian Volleyball Championship title win with a 3-1 success over China in the Final, while South Korea pipped Australia to third with a 3-1 win.
The Women’s tournament took place in Taipei, also in September, with China taking home the title thanks to a 3-1 win over Japan, while third place went to South Korea after they edged out Thailand 3-2.
