The North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) is a non-profitable organisation that is responsible for arranging all volleyball tournaments within their areas.
NORCECA currently represents all 35 members of their organisation at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) level.
One of the main things NORCECA are responsible for is the arranging of Olympic and World Championship zone qualification tournaments as well as continental championships for both men and women in the disciplines of indoor and beach volleyball.
The NORCECA Championship is a national volleyball tournament for both men and women. The first ever tournament was staged in 1969 and until 1993 both men and women used the same venue to hold their tournaments.
From 1993 onwards the tournaments became separate with the men and women formats sometimes held in different countries.
The first ever men’s NORCEA Championship was held in Mexico City with Cuba getting the better of the host nation in the final, while the women’s event was won by Mexico who this time got the better of Cuba.
The first NORCEA Championship event to be staged as separate tournaments was in 1993 when the Cuban men’s team again took the title with victory over USA in New Orleans, while the same outcome occurred in the women’s tournament in Colorado.
Cuba and USA are huge rivals when it comes to the NORCECA Men’s Championship with the Cubans currently leading the way with 22 medals from 15 Gold, four Silver and three Bronze, while the Americans are just one medal behind after taking home seven Gold, 10 Silver and four Bronze.
In the women’s section it is again the Cubans and Americans leading the way, but this time Cuba have a two medal lead after winning 13 Gold, seven Silver and two Bronze compared to Americas six Gold, 11 Silver and three Bronze.
There are both men's and women's competitions, who were staged together until 1993.
