Serbia and Russia clash in CEV Women's Olympic qualifiers
Expect a thrilling match in the CEV Women's Olympic volleyball qualification tournament in Ankara today as Serbia and Russia face off in Pool B.
The two teams are the favorites in the pool but were upset in their opening matches yesterday.
Serbia, the reigning European champion, lost to the Netherlands 25-20 30-28 26-28 28-30 11-15. Serbia coach Zoran Terzic lamented his team's heartbreaking defeat.
"We played well in some parts of the game, but badly in the rest," he told the CEV web site.
"I do not know why, but we played without courage in the match, especially in serving and attacks. Of course, I am not happy with the result. The next two matches, especially the last match against Poland, are very important for us. We want to succeed in those matches and continue in the tournament."
The defeat spoiled the 20-point production of Milena Rasic and Natasha Krsmanovic.
Russia also suffered the same fate as the powerhouse team was stunned by Poland 25-17 16-25 25-21 19-25 18-16 in another five-set thriller.
Back to lead the team are Ekaterina Gamova, Tatiana Kosheleva and Liubov Shashkova.
