The quarter finals of the Hong Kong Squash Open are set to take place on Friday with most of the usual suspects in the men's draw, but three top seeds missing from the women's after a dramatic day of second round action.
The men's event on Thursday went pretty much as expected, as seven of the eight seeded players qualified for the quarters including three Englishmen.
England's World No. 1 Nick Matthew will play Gregory Gaultier at 08:30 (GMT), after fellow countryman Peter Barker get proceedings underway against James Willstrop of Yorkshire on Friday morning at 07:30.
In the other men's quarter finals Amr Shabana plays Azlan Iskandar at 13:00, whilst Australia's Stewart Boswell awaits the winner of the Tarek Momen versus Karim Darwish at 20:00.
England's number two seed Jenny Duncalf, Ireland's number four seed Madeline Perry and sixth seed Kasey Brown of Australia all exited the tournament on Thursday at the hands of lower ranked players, the latter to local favourite and number 15 seed Joey Chan.
Chan will fancy her chances of securing a semi final spot on her home patch when she faces Raneem El Weleily (10) at 10:15 in the morning.
Malaysian star Nicol David (1) will have to meet the challenge of Laura Massaro (5) after being pushed all the way in the second round. That games begins at 09:30.
In the other women's quarters Rachael Grinham (3) faces Annie Au (8) at 04:00, while Camille Serme (7) takes on Low Wee Wern (13) at 04:45.
