The Royal Challengers Bangalore will host the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 10th game of the Indian Premier League 2012 in what should be a cracker of a contest.

A Historical View:
Bangalore began with a win over the Delhi Daredevils in their opening game, but it was only due to the efforts of AB de Villiers towards the end of the innings that they got anywhere close to the kind of total they needed. At one stage, it looked like it was going woefully wrong for them.

For Kolkata, it did go wrong. In the opening game, rain reduced the number of overs to 12 and Delhi managed to get the better of them. And then in their second match, the Rajasthan Royals put them to sword with some really attacking batting before bowling the entire Knight Riders side out within 20 overs.

Kolkata and Bangalore have played each other nine times and both teams have won four games apiece. The remaining game ended in a tie, speaking of how closely the two sides are matched.

Probable selection:
Things get interesting with the Bangalore selection. For one, there is news that Chris Gayle might be fit for this one and hence could be a walk-in to the playing 11. Then, there is another matter of Tillakaratne Dilshan joining the Royal Challengers Bangalore after playing in a Test series back home and space will be needed to be made in the playing 11.

The four foreigners who played for Bangalore in the first game are Andrew McDonald, AB de Villiers, captain Daniel Vettori and Muthiah Muralitharan. Vettori is the skipper, de Villiers is one of their best batsmen and Muralitharan picked up three wickets in the opening game, which means that only McDonald is dispensable at this stage – making selection very difficult.

Gayle should come in for McDonald while Dilshan could have to warm the bench.

Kolkata tried changing things around in the previous game by picking Sunil Narine in place of Marchant de Lange, but the move did not help too much. Where the Knight Riders are struggling are that they have put too much faith in Brendon McCullum and Jacques Kallis at the top of the innings and at the moment, the duo is struggling.

It may not be a bad idea for the side to drop McCullum in favour of Shakib al Hasan, an all-rounder of immense ability.
