With La Liga title in the bag, Cristiano Ronaldo now aims to rub Lionel Messi’s nose in it even further by denying his great rival the ‘Pichichi’.
Ronaldo, on 44, is two goals behind Messi in the race to be La Liga’s leading scorer with two matches to go, although he insists that accolade is secondary to the fact his side have become Spanish champions for the first time since 2008.
“I am not too worried about the Pichichi this year. We’ll see what happens in the end,” said the Portuguese forward.
But Ronaldo will surely be keen to put a goal or two past Granada to send out another message that Messi should not automatically be considered the world’s best player.
Granada need one point to ensure survival in the top flight having been promoted last season after a 35-year absence.
They are five points ahead of 18th-placed Real Zaragoza but have a much superior goal difference.
Coach Abel Resino has been offered a new contract having impressed the club’s board and Granada are hoping to attract a better class of player during the summer.
They are 13/2 to pull off an upset by beating Real, who could be forgiven for taking their foot off the gas with the job having been done. It’s 4/1 for a draw and 4/11 about an away win.
