North Queensland Cowboys have signed half-back Robert Lui from NRL rivals Wests Tigers.
Lui, who formed a great partnership with Benji Marshall at the Tigers, has been released from the final year of his contract in order to sign a two-year deal with the Cowboys.
Lui, 21, was born and educated in North Queensland and represented the Upper Ross Rams at junior level before making his NRL debut with the Tigers in 2009.
The Cowboys, Tigers and Lui have been in discussions for some time and the Tigers refuse to stand in a players way if they want to move back to their home environment.
Cowboys general manager Peter Parr said: “Robert has been a key member in the Wests Tigers finals teams over the past couple of years and his talent and potential has been recognised across the game.
“He’s a North Queensland boy and is looking forward to being part of our roster and to representing his region.
“At his young age, Robert has virtually his whole career ahead of him and we’ll be welcoming him into a solid playing group that will provide leadership and support.”
