Reigning Champion Ronnie O`Sullivan continues his bid for an incredible fifth world title when he takes on Essex rival Stuart Bingham for the right to reach the penultimate stage.
A three-session thriller lies in waiting as two of the game's most exciting cueists lock horns for the possible right to face a certain Judd Trump in the Semi-Finals.
A scintillating O'Sullivan is now widely expected to storm to his fifth world crown after his Last 16 display, but is set for another tough test against a player at the peak of his career.
After a sluggish start, snooker's most naturally gifted player exploded into life with a series of one-visit frames, eventually sweeping aside Ali Carter to re-affirm himself as the man to beat this weekend.
Despite a full season on the sidelines, O'Sullivan appears in sharper condition than almost all of his rivals, and it looks like taking something special from an inspired Bingham to bring The Rocket crashing down to Earth.
Their three-session epic gets underway in the afternoon session on Tuesday, and Bingham, appearing in a first ever Crucible Quarter-Final to culminate a landmark season, knows he can ill-afford a slow start.
The Basildon potter has seen off Sam Baird and Mark Davis in fine style to reach this stage, but his much improved all-round game will face the ultimate test on this great occasion.
The duo have met a total of five times in previous major competition dating back to 2003, and O'Sullivan, as with the majority of opponents, boasts the superior head-to-head record, having taken victory on four of those occasions.
O'Sullivan prevailed 10-5 from their clash in round one of this event in 2009, producing a top of 140, and will be hoping for a repeat of that outcome and form this time around.
The bookmakers make Ronnie the inevitable odds-on favourite at 2/7 to extend that record and remain on course to defend his title, with Bingham priced at 11/4 with BoyleSports to tear up the script and keep his dream alive.
Either young sensation Judd Trump or 2005 World Champion Shaun Murphy awaits the winner in a mouth-watering Semi-Final showdown later in the week.
The match begins at 2.30pm BST on Tuesday for the opening session, where a total of eight frames will be played, resuming at 10am and 7pm on Wednesday, when it will be played to a conclusion.
It will be streamed live in full over the best of 25 frames from the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
