There are over 100 teams set to compete at the Silesia Open on the 2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball SWATCH World Tour this week.
Germany’s Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann lead the field in Myslowice, Poland as world champions Alison Cerutti and Emanuel Rego and Olympic champions Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser miss out.
The current European champions have played 39 World Tour events to date and boast an impressive record, reaching the semi-final stage on 22 occasions. The pair finished third in the overall World Tour ranking last year, collecting three silver and three bronze medals and third place at the World Championships in Rome.
Also in contention for medals this time around will be Brazil’s Ricardo Santos and Pedro Cunha (seeded second) and Pedro Solberg Salgado and Marcio Araujo (seeded ninth).
Marcio Araujo and Pedro formed only formed their partnership this year and will go in search of an Olympic ticket for London over the next couple of months.
The FIVB SWATCH World Tour Silesia Open gets under way today with the Country Quota matches, followed by the Qualification tournament on Wednesday.
The Main Draw matches commence on Thursday with the semi-finals set for Saturday and the medal matches scheduled for Sunday.
The $190,000 Silesia Open is the second competition on the 14-tournament men’s calendar after last week's Brasilia Open.
