The German Masters Snooker Tournament originally started as the German Open and was held as a ranking tournament from 1995 to 1997. In 1998 it not only changed its name, but also changed to a non-ranking tournament.

The German Masters returned for the 2010/2011 season as a ranking tournament and was held in Berlin's Tempodrom, where Mark Williams fought off Mark Selby in a narrow 9-7 win.
